Job Description
Key responsibilities
• Ensure the packaging satisfies the markets needs and fulfils the clients expectations, e.g. ease of use, merchandising efficiency, appropriate graphical area
• Ensure packaging is fit for purpose
• Examine alternatives and push boundaries (where appropriate) with innovative solutions
• Cost all options, always promoting the most cost effective packaging available
• Attend Design Brief to present preferred cutter, material and positioning, inclusive of secondary and tertiary packaging
• Ensure all communication is accurately recorded through Odin comments, including Supplier Specifications
• In conjunction with Account Managers / Technical Account Manager, ensure printability of all designs as well as the effects / quality required
• Set monthly performance targets with Packaging Technology Manager and review achievements
• Produce monthly reports, indicating cost savings, innovation, % quality achieved by category / brand where appropriate and present back to Packaging Technology Manager
• Build alliances with Suppliers, Printers and client
• Adopt common working procedures and cover colleague absences where required
• Where feasible ensure environmental and waste legislation issues are addressed
• Attend 1st print run when necessary to establish colour accuracy and quality
• Attend 1st Production meetings, minute and update tracker, ensuring all QA / QC issues are filed with subsequent results available to the client and GMG Management
• Strive to update technical knowledge by seminars / training attendance
The overall purpose of the role is to ensure that all packaging formats are investigated and rationalized to ensure that they are fit for purpose from a technical and graphical viewpoint, cost effective and to the quality expected of the brand and the client.
The role will include the following responsibilities
-establish packaging guidelines
-rationalise packaging specifications to achieve cost efficiencies
provide innovative new packaging solutions where appropriate
-deliver environmentally better packaging solutions
This role represents the ideal opportunity for a Packaging technology specialist to utilise and develop their skills and knowledge across a vast range for packaging formats.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have a degree in Packaging Technology or science/engineering & also possess
-excellent communication skills
-a customer focused attitude
-an ability to work individually and as part of an established team
-an ability to coach/supervise others is desirable
