Job Description
InterFlex Scotland limited is the European arm of the InterFlex Group, a North American based Flexographic Printing organisation. Based in Mayfield, Dalkeith, Midlothian, InterFlex Scotland Ltd produces printed and converted film and paper for food packaging. The majority of our business is with the bakery sector, however, we also supply the meat, produce, seafood and non-food sectors.
An opportunity has arisen for a Shift Manager to be considered for this position you should ideally be an experienced manager and have previous experience working within a printing or manufacturing environment. Experience in lean manufacturing would be an advantage and you should be computer literate and have a good working knowledge of Excel and Word. You should be an effective communicator as you will be required to liaise with personnel at every level within the business as well as with customers.
Main Duties
Responsible for effectively managing the daily production requirements of the factory including Printing, Converting and Warehouse
•To effectively manage the performance and conduct of all shop floor employees
•Responsible for ensuring Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to at all times
•Responsible for organising Shift Rosters including holiday cover
•Responsible for the ordering of Wax, Adhesive, Solvent
•Responsible for Monthly Work in Progress Stock Taking
•Attend daily production meetings when on shift, attend monthly production meeting
•To set and communicate realistic yet aggressive production improvement targets
•Measure monitor and communicate production target performance
•Responsible for effectively dealing with under performance
•Responsible for conducting investigations into WIP rejections to progress and eliminate problems and to, where necessary, change systems and processes
Productivity
•Be able to “drive” production
•Continuously explore methods of improving productivity/efficiency and reducing cost base
•Monitor and control costs where direct accountability is allocated
•Lead various projects to introduce new product lines and improvements
•Work with all departments within the business to ensure constant improvement of all processes
People Management
•Foster and encourage a “Team Culture”
•Coach, direct, assist your direct reports and staff as required to achieve Production Targets
•Motivate team through effective communication and clear direction as to what is expected of them
•Provide constructive feedback on performance and conduct formal annual performance reviews
•Proactively monitor information provided regarding HR related issues – absence, lateness, early leavers, non-compliance etc.
•Ensure staff scheduling is implemented to maximise productivity whilst minimising costs – especially overtime
•Ensure that all production employees are trained to the required level for their post (i.e. they are competent)
•Have good interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
