Job Description

To provide a specialist packaging technology service in the conception and development of new packaging and processes, in fulfilment of identified consumer needs, consistent with company business and strategies.

To identify and investigate technologies, processes and materials which may be exploited in the innovation process or the improvement of existing packaging and plant specifications resulting in better quality, improved merchandising / visibility, new/differentiated usage occasions or increased profitability.

To work with the Procurement team in driving cost-out of packaging without compromising factory performance.

To manage and develop the Packaging Development team of 4 (3 packaging technologists, 1 Packaging Technician)

Sets and Manages team overhead budget

Strong involvement and influence of cross functional Project teams

Responsible for approx 1,000 packaging changes per year across approx 300 items at 3 UK production sites, and 2 co-packer sites

Responsible for packaging element of all NPD, EPD, VAVE within the business– approx 90 - 110 projects pa

The position requires a broad technical knowledge of materials, suppliers, process and equipment together with at minimum 7 years practical and relevant experience in an FMCG environment.
A pro-active creative thinker, able to develop strong internal and external relationships and manage projects effectively, the job holder will need to be an agent of change, able to deliver in a profit orientated environment. Strong commercial awareness will be necessary to operate effectively. Must be a very stromg manager/leader & excellent communicator. UK travel will be necessary to achieve objectives.

The job holder will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills and effective line management experience.

Experience in non-technical aspects (resource and general management, personal development, interview skills, mentoring/facilitating, customer contact) is beneficial.
