Job Description

The group’s responsibility covers all Global packaging solutions, productivity, growth, innovation platforms and Next Generation Packaging within food & drinks.

This role is part of the Next Generation Packaging team, a team responsible for scouting and exploring packaging solutions for the innovation platform, productivity and growth tracks.

This Packaging Engineer reports into the Senior Associate of Next Generation Packaging and will be responsible for packaging solutions, execution activities globally, with project responsibility for certain related projects. The group itself also links closely with the regional teams in order to drive and understand long term innovation opportunities and apply them to Global products.

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Independently plan, lead and manage small to medium packaging innovation projects, requiring internal and external interfaces. Projects will be focused on the different next generation packaging tracks. Take responsibility and ownership for packaging development elements of the larger innovation projects.

Forge effective working relationships with internal and external partners/stakeholders.
Liaise with, and drive suppliers in order to generate first hand innovations and best in class solutions.
Interface with key contacts within Product R&D, Procurement, Marketing, Operations, Design, Research.

Independently investigate packaging material, concept, process opportunities encountered at a day to day business.
Investigate and challenge packaging related opportunities.

Be self initiative, driven and be hungry for packaging related topics.
Independently be creative and innovative.

Plan, organise and execute packaging trials where necessary.
Investigate, generate and release material specifications based on compliance, tests and trial work completed.

Identify, manage and support sustainable packaging and cost reduction programs.
Participate in other packaging related initiatives as required.

Keep up to date with packaging innovation within and outside the industry and log relevant opportunities as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience requirements

Practical knowledge and experience of a range of packaging materials, processes and manufacturing methods is essential as is knowledge of current sustainability trends and issues in relation to packaging

Degree or equivalent level, experience/qualification in a relevant packaging or scientific area.
