Job Description
A leading national retail company (200+ stores) is urgently seeking an experienced lead designer to join their in-house design team. The successful candidate will produce creative concepts and design layouts in support of the business's sales, marketing and corporate activities. They will also be responsible for managing a small team of Designers and Artworkers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take the creative lead within Studio, and provide art direction and project management to other members of the Team, ensuring the creative output of the department fulfils the Brief and is brand appropriate
- Produce design concepts and layouts for projects such as catalogues, design for print, POS, in-store graphics.
- Assist in developing approach/concepts for photo shoots, and, as necessary, art direct shoots ensuring that the photographic brief is interpreted correctly
- Prepare and deliver Client design presentations in order to 'sell' the Department's creative work and seek formal feedback/approval
- Line-manage a small team of Designers and Artworkers, including art direction, day-to-day supervision, mentoring, appraisals, etc.
- Oversee artwork production to ensure that the initial design concepts/layouts are correctly interpreted to completion
- In conjunction with the Studio and Assets Manager, schedule design projects amongst the Team to ensure timely delivery of projects
Key Experience and Skills:
- Extensive knowledge and experience of the creative process from within a commercial environment, be that an agency or in-house department
- Expert level:
* oQuark Xpress
* oIllustrator
* oPhotoShop
* oInDesign
* oAcrobat
- Knowledge and experience of concept, graphics design layout and typography
- Knowledge and experience of contemporary print production techniques across a wide range of media
- Knowledge and experience of photographic art direction
