Job Description

Basic salary up to £45,000 + company car or car allowance, final salary pension, bonus 7.5% p.a, BUPA

Lead internal & external teams to deliver high quality packaging NPD on time & to budget.

Input into the NPD pipeline to achieve planned growth.

Lead the development of excellent on-shelf presentation of fmcg UK Brands – both structure and graphics so that our client matches or surpasses their competitors in visual appearance.

Demonstrate “Winning team behaviour” through consistent application in leading and being part of cross functional project teams.

Champion the search for new ways of working together with 3rd party partners, to enable excellence in all aspects of project delivery.
Job Purpose To manage the packaging development process through all NPD stages to deliver both the brand vision and future growth on all new product for specified brands.

Ensure that existing and new packaging components are fit for purpose and are optimised for consumer appeal, line efficiency, cost and quality.

Develop & maintain the packaging parts of the NPD process for the implementation of change through continuous improvement, challenging existing ways of working.

Ensure clear communication and commitment to these ways of working with all suppliers.

Ensure the company complies with all current packaging legal, regulatory and other legislation and is kept informed of future changes that may affect packaging specification or packaging process.

Lead packaging development through design, develop and implement stages of NPD activity.

Provide packaging technical expertise to the design, artwork, repro and print stages of graphic implementation.

Experience Required
Experience within an FMCG product development department or similar.
Successful delivery of a portfolio of projects in FMCG area
Exposure to, and experience of, working with a number of business functions such as Marketing, Production, Sales, Finance and Planning
Experience of conducting production/print trials, on site- problem solving in a production environment.
Must have successfully managed or supervised packaging development projects from initiation to launch.
Must be used to translating consumer needs / requirements into technical specifications for products.
Show well developed communication and interpersonal skills.
Involvement in commercial aspects of packaging development & marketing.
Good understanding of consumer issues and use of market research data.

Advanced knowledge required

Print methods, design repro, execution and proofing.
Tool development
Colour matching, materials, finishes & effects.
Dispensing technology
An awareness of the principals of product evaluation and consumer research processes.
Good knowledge of materials science and related analytical systems and tools
Sound working knowledge of Microsoft packages (work, excel, power point)
Specification systems.
QC, QA and general quality systems.
Current technology trends.
Knowledge of patents and intellectual property rights.
Working knowledge of Microsoft project, plm & specifications systems.

Qualifications
Degree in Packaging, Packaging Design or Engineering Discipline or suitable equivalent qualifications
Member of Institute & Packaging
